For young calves (horn button just felt, under 2 week old):
Clip hair over the horn button and surrounding area.
Apply a thin, even film of paste over the horn button and a small ring of adjacent skin (about the size of a five-cent coin or 20 mm).
Apply once only using a wood applicator.
For calves over seven days old:
Apply the paste to a larger area (about the size of a quarter or 25 mm).
Apply paste once only using a wood applicator.
Note:
To properly dehorn calves, use 0.02 ml of Xylazine injection intramuscularly (IM) to keep the animals calm for 30-40 minutes. Please consult a veterinarian for guidance on this method.
